Crosscontry skiingtrip from Ittoqqortoormiit to Kap Swainsson

In May 2006, we were four people going on a tree days crosscountry trip from Ittoqqortoormiit to Kap Swainson and back. On the first day we went to Ûnarteq and stayed the night in a rented house. We took a look at the hot springs and had a nice dinner with amasetter and scallop soup. On the second day we started out skiing at the shore for a couple of miles, then we went on land above a hill. By late afternoon we reached Kap Swainsson; we had a look around and made pasta on the primus while enjoying the silence and fantastic view to the outer coast. At the iceedge , seals put up their heads in the sea and thousands of little auks were following the coastline . On the third day we headed back to Ittoqqortoormiit. On the first halfpart we followed the shore and then we went across land and took the shortcut back to the village. The route over land was very nice with some small hills going up and down. We had our equipment such as rifle, GPS, Satellitephone, primus, food and sleepingbags in a pulk. We also had a couple of dogs with us, they are nice company, but most important : they will warn you if there are any polarbears nearby. The weather was very sunny and the surroundings were fantastic. I can strongly recommend this trip.
